Learn About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is proven to contain the most effective martial arts self-defense techniques in the world. No other martial art provides the level of skill, training, and knowledge necessary to immobilize any opponent of any size and shape. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uses proper positioning, leverage, and technique to allow a variety of chokes, joint locks, or even strikes to submit your opponent.

Since most real fights end up on the ground, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's primary focus is taking the fight to the ground using simple takedown techniques, controlling and neutralizing your opponents aggressiveness, then manipulating him into a vulnerable position for a finishing technique.

Because of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's unmatched success in events such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and countless of other No-Hold-Barred (NHB) events across the world, many law enforcement agencies and military branches have adopted it into their programs. Moreso, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts academies, associations, and clubs are cropping up all over the country.

Here at Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu TM, LLC located in Carmel, Indiana we teach the techniques, skills, and strategies that the legendary Gracie family had been teaching and using in Brazil for over 80 years, and first brought to America in the late 1980's. We will provide you with a professional, high quality training environment that will help you reach your goals.
Even though our academy produces champions and winners in both sport competition and in MMA events, we recognize that most people seeking to learn the art of jiu-jitsu do not choose or wish to participate in competition.  Many people don’t have the time to commit to training for competition or MMA fighting, nor do they have the desire.  We do not make it mandatory or push our students into sport competition as other schools do.  In fact, many other academies, schools, or clubs focus on teaching competition techniques or point fighting techniques rather than teaching jiu-jitsu as a self-defense.  The Gracie family specifically developed Gracie Jiu-Jitsu as a method of self-defense, and that is our primary focus to teach you effective techniques you can use to defend yourself when the situation arises.  Here you will get no watered down versions or substitutes, you will get the real deal.

It’s completely up to you whether you compete or not, and we will support you in whatever choice you make.  In any account, you will learn in a safe and non threatening environment.  Many people just like you, have a family, job, school, and other responsibilities outside of jiu-jitsu and need to return to them healthy.

Not only does jiu-jitsu promote good health, athleticism, self control and discipline, jiu-jitsu is a way of live.  Jiu-Jitsu is more than what is learned and practiced on the mat.  It’s about respecting others, growing relationships, and taking care of one another and our families.  Jiu-Jitsu helps you become a better person, and it challenges you to be a model citizen, as someone that people can respect and look up to.  Some of the most rewarding feedback from our students is about the many ways jiu-jitsu has changed their personal lives for the better.

Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu TM, LLC is affiliated with Master Caique (Carlos Henrique Elias) a 7th Degree Red/Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Caique has been friends with the Gracie family for over 35 years. He was taught by the Great Grand Master Helio Gracie and his sons Relson and Rickson while he was growing up in Brazil.  For many years he was their top student and competitor.

Caique ran his own academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before being asked by Helio Gracie to relocate to the United States to teach at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, CA. While being a head instructor at the Gracie Academy, Caique frequently traveled across the United States teaching at the Gracie Training Associations.

Today, Caique is considered by many one of the best and most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors in the world. In May of 2001 he opened his own academy in Carson, CA, which has been a great success and keeps him very busy. Caique also enjoys traveling throughout the United States teaching Jiu-Jitsu to his many students and affiliations.  He was promoted to the level of Red/Black belt by Master Rickson Gracie in March 2009.

Jiu-Jitsu Instructors
Greg Eldred - Professor
Greg Eldred, owner of Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu TM, LLC, is one of very few Americans that can claim he's been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 24 years, and he was the first jiu-jitsu instructor in central Indiana.  He began his training at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, CA in January 1991.  He spent 3 years as a student at the Gracie Academy training under Rorion, Royce, Rickson, and Royler Gracie.

In 1993 Greg relocated to Cincinnati, OH and started one of the first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Associations in the United States, under Rorion and Royce.  Then, in 1996 he relocated to Indianapolis, IN and headed the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Association there for 4 1/2 years.  He was promoted to Purple Belt by Royce Gracie in June 1999 after winning an eight man no time limit invitational tournament arranged by Royce.  Over the years Greg has had the privilege of training with most of Grand Master Helio Gracie's sons; Rorion, Royce, Rickson, Royler, Relson, and Rolker Gracie, and greatly appreciates those friendships and experiences.

In May 2001, Greg became a certified instructor and affiliate under Carlos "Caique" Elias, and was promoted to the elite status of Black Belt in November 2005. Greg continues to train frequently with Master Caique and has him visit his academy in Indianapolis on a regular basis.  Because of his extensive training, knowledge, and experience, Greg provides one of the best sources of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts instruction in the State of Indiana.  Greg was promoted to the level of 3rd degree Black Belt in March 2015, and is certified from the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Besides his jiu-jitsu experience, Greg is an Indiana native who graduated from Purdue University in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.  In his 23 year professional career, he worked 8 years as an engineer at Hughes Aircraft Company in southern California building advanced space systems.  He then relocated back to the midwest and for 7 years held sales and marketing positions for Delphi Automotive Systems, in Cincinnati, OH, and Kokomo, IN.  Then for 8 years Greg was a Systems Engineer for Delphi Automotive Systems in Kokomo, IN developing airbag control systems.  Throughout Greg’s professional career he was labeled an exceptional performer, and received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions and efforts.

All the while being an engineer, Greg managed to make jiu-jitsu a major part of his life.  His engineering background and experience as a professional transcends into his jiu-jitsu life.  Greg pays attention to detail, and does not merely know how something is done, but why it is done.  He is an effective communicator and is able to explain techniques and moves to his students in a logical and understandable way.  He has a wealth of jiu-jitsu knowledge where his LINEAGE comes directly from the Gracie family and Master Caique.  Some of his students say Greg is a “walking encyclopedia”.  Now, Greg is retired from engineering and runs his jiu-jitsu academy full time.

Greg is married to Kim, and they have 3 sons.  He is a man with a strong spiritual foundation, and he enjoys volunteering as a coach for his sons wrestling team.

Chris Keidel - Professor
Chris was one of Greg Eldred's first students when he opened up the Indianapolis Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Association in 1997.  Besides being a dedicated and loyal student, Chris has competed in numerous jiu-jitsu tournaments in both gi and no gi divisions, and has a 2 - 0 record in MMA fighting.  Chris was promoted to the coveted rank of Black Belt by Master Caique in September 2011.
