Learn About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is proven to contain the most effective self-defense techniques in the world. No other martial art provides the level of skill, training, and knowledge necessary to immobilize any opponent of any size and shape. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uses proper positioning, leverage, and technique to allow a variety of chokes, joint locks, or even strikes to submit your opponent.

Since most real fights end up on the ground, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's primary focus is taking the fight to the ground using simple takedown techniques, controlling and neutralizing your opponents aggressiveness, then manipulating him into a vulnerable position for a finishing technique.

Because of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's unmatched success in events such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and countless of other No-Hold-Barred (NHB) events across the world, many law enforcement agencies and military branches have adopted it into their programs. Moreso, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies, associations, and clubs are cropping up all over the country.

Here at Indianapolis Jiu-Jitsu we teach the techniques, skills, and strategies that the legendary Gracie family has been teaching and using in Brazil for over 80 years, and first brought to America over a decade ago. We will provide you with a professional, high quality training environment that will help you reach your goals. Please see our bio information below.

Indianapolis Jiu-Jitsu is affiliated with Professor Caique (Carlos Henrique Elias) a 6th Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Caique has been friends with the Gracie family for over 35 years. He was taught by the Great Master Helio Gracie and his sons Relson and Rickson while he was growing up in Brazil.  For many years he was their top student and competitor.

Caique ran his own academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before being asked by Helio Gracie to relocate to the United States to teach at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, CA. While being a head instructor at the Gracie Academy, Caique frequently traveled across the United States teaching at the Gracie Training Associations.

Today, Caique is considered by many one of the best and most respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors in the world. In May of 2001 he opened his own academy in Carson, CA, which has been a great success and keeps him very busy. Caique also enjoys traveling throughout the United States teaching Jiu-Jitsu to his many students and affiliations.

Jiu-Jitsu Instructors
Greg Eldred - Head Instructor

Greg Eldred is one of very few Americans that can claim he's been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 17 years. He began his training at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, CA in January 1991. He spent 3 years as a student at the Gracie Academy training under Rorion, Royce, Rickson, and Royler Gracie.

In 1993 Greg relocated to Cincinnati, OH and started one of the first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Associations in the United States. Then, in 1996 he relocated to Indianapolis, IN and headed the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Association there for 4 1/2 years. He was promoted to Purple Belt by Royce Gracie in June 1999 after winning an eight man no time limit invitational tournament arranged by Royce. Over the years Greg has had the privilege of training with most of Helio Gracie's sons; Rorion, Royce, Rickson, Royler, Relson, and Rolker Gracie, and greatly appreciates those friendships and experiences.

In May 2001, Greg became a certified instructor and affiliate under Carlos "Caique" Elias "Team Caique", and was promoted to the elite status of Black Belt in November 2005. Greg continues to train frequently with Caique and he has Professor Caique visit his academy in Indianapolis on a regular basis. Because of his extensive training, knowledge, and experience, Greg provides one of the best sources of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction in the State of Indiana.

Besides his Jiu-Jitsu experience, Greg graduated from Purdue University in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. In his career, he worked as an Engineer at Hughes Aircraft Company, in Sales and Marketing at Delphi Delco Electronics Systems, and is currently a Systems Engineer at Delphi Automotive Systems working on vehicle restraint systems.
